.....He ran away to join the army. My mother went and tried to get him back on account of his age. But nothing would do for him to go. I never seen him any more until August 1864." reads a 1930 account of Andrew "Jeter" Davis' entry into the Civil War as his brother, James remembered.
Jeter, only about 14 years old when he took up arms was captured Feb. 121865 in Tortuga. "The next day, I was taken to Fort Taylor, Key West and put in prison. I was captured while hunting for deserters from our army," writes Davis, a member of Company "A", 20th Battalion from Camp LeMar Cobb in Decatur, Ga., on his pension applicatioon.
Davis married his wife, Eulee when he was 78 years old. She was 21. Eulee Davis , 77, of Mariana, now is one of three Northwest Florida women among seven in the state collecyting Civil war pensions.....
