ANDREW JACKSON

Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson was born February 28, 1832 in Edinburg, Dinwiddie County, Virginia the son of Pitts and Luvinia Jackson residents of Petersburg, Virginia.  Andrew's parents were both deceased by the time he married Frances. On August 1, 1874 in Guilford County North Carolina he married Frances Virginia Bantz.  He was 42 and she was 21.  Francis, known as Fannie, was the daughter of Stewart and Elizabeth Grover per the marriage  certificate.  Stewart and Elizabeth were originally from Augusta County, Virginia, but had removed to Greensboro, North Carolina. It is uncertain at this time where the name Bantz came from.  Was Fannie the widow Bantz or had her mother remarried to Mr, Grover having herself been married to a Mr, Bantz?

By June 1877 Andrew and Francis were living in Florida, first probably in St Augustine (1885 Florida census)where the last of their three children (Stewart) was born and then later further down south in West Palm Beach where they lived out the rest of their lives.

Andrew enlisted in Suffolk County Virginia in March 1862 in Company D 14th of Virginia infantry and served until the close of the war at which time he was held as a prisoner in Richmond, Virginia having been captured at Five Forks, Virginia.

He was totally disabled by 1909 and had a Confederate pension.  He had applied for pension increased October 7, 1913. Andrew died December 15, 1915 in West Palm Beach Florida. His wife, Frances, applied for a widow’s pension December 29, 1915.  It is unclear when and where Fannie passed away.
